Awards & Jury

The films presented at BILDRAUSCH are all worthy of awards in their own right. And yet film awards offer filmmakers financial support as well as the recognition they deserve. The Peter-Liechti-Wanderpreis and the short film prize are awarded by a jury. The public is invited to vote for their favourite.

AWARDS FOR ARTISTIC AUDACITY AND SCREENPLAY

A tribute to having the courage to ‘go all out’
The prize for artistic achievement is closely linked to the legacy of Swiss filmmaker and author Peter Liechti (1951–2014). A supporter from the beginning, he gave BILDRAUSCH his wholehearted backing, shaping the festival with his radical approach. The prize honours works that demonstrate exceptional narrative or visual courage – films that, in the spirit of Liechti, 'venture into the branches, far out into a realm where things can get really uncomfortable'.

The prize money is CHF 1,500 and is presented as a challenge cup in the form of a reclining figure of the number eight, designed by Luzia Vogt.

New for 2026: a focus on the origins of the vision
Every great cinematic vision begins with the first written word. It is at the point where a vague idea becomes a concrete treatment or screenplay that the narrative's strength is established.
For the first time, BILDRAUSCH 2026 will award a prize for an outstanding screenplay or treatment in the field of documentary film. By doing so, we are supporting the creative process and honouring scripts that excel on paper.

This new cash prize for script development is endowed with CHF 1,500.

SHORTS AWARD

The short film award, affectionately known as SHORTS, honours the incomparable spirit of creativity, ingenuity and independence that inspires, moves and transforms Swiss short film. The SHORTS AWARD is endowed with CHF 1'000.–.

AUDIENCE AWARD

The Audience Award honours the most popular film of our BILDRAUSCH viewers. It honours an outstanding work by vote. The winning film receives CHF 1'000.– and will be shown again as a SPECIAL in the Stadtkino Basel programme after BILDRAUSCH.

Carmen Stadler

Carmen Stadler

After completing a basic training course in photography, I studied film and video at the Zurich University of the Arts (zhdk). During my studies, I undertook further training in directing, dramaturgy and acting with Stephan Teuwissen. This marked the beginning of a long-standing collaboration. My graduation film ‘Nachtflattern’ won various awards and was invited to many international film festivals. Since 2007, I have been working as a freelance screenwriter, director and editor, and I develop treatments and screenplays. ‘Sekuritas’ was my first feature-length film, which I produced together with Claudia Wick from ABRAKADABRA Films AG. In keeping with the film’s nocturnal theme, the premiere was celebrated at the “Black Nights Film Festival” in Tallinn in 2019, in the “Rebels with a Cause” competition. In spring 2020, “Sekuritas” was screened in the competition for the Max Ophüls Film Prize and in the Panorama section of the Solothurn Film Festival. Then came the coronavirus lockdown, which slowed down distribution. This was followed by online festival appearances, including AFMX, Evolution Mallorca, Ramsgate, and others. In the summer of 2020, during the lockdown break, ‘Sekuritas’ was screened in Swiss cinemas with a proper ‘safety protocol’ and ran for over 10 weeks.
During my artist residency in Paris, at the Cité Internationale des Arts, I began sketching out ideas for my new feature film “Das Galgenmahl” (working title).
