Dirk Koy
Dirk Koy, born in 1977, is an artist and filmmaker. His works operate at the interface between a graphic, photographic and video-technical approach, which is anchored in the concrete, and a digital work. He examines the meeting of reality and virtuality, links the analogue with the digital and is also in search of the painterly component in the digital context. The multitude of digital technologies that Koy uses in the realisation of his works, such as 2D and 3D animation, drones, photogrammetry, 3D scanning, augmented reality and virtual reality, as well as the manipulation of the various parameters of operating software, the limits of which he tests, testify to his interest in experimentation. In his works, which depict distortions of the real world using these various digital processes, he conveys a unique view of everyday life. His works have been shown at the Art Centre Nabi in Seoul, the HEK (House of Electronic Arts) in Basel, the "Supernova" Festival in Denver and the FILE Festival in São Paulo, among others. He has been honoured with prizes such as the Prix Ars Electronica (2012), the Visual Music Awards (2015), the Basel Media Art Prize (2019) and the Prix du film "Off-Limits" (Annecy, 2022) for his animations and videos.
