In Love Affair, or the Case of the Missing Switchboard Operator (Ljubavni slučaj ili tragedija službenice P.T.T.), Ahmed, the serious exterminator, falls in love with the fun-loving telephone operator Isabelle. When Isabelle turns out to be pregnant after a long absence on Ahmed's part and turns down his joyful offer of marriage, the bitter end is already in sight.
Makavejev's first essay on the blasting of history: The narrative of sex and death, which is already riven by looming flash forwards, is sometimes sardonically, sometimes ironically commented on by moments from Esfir Sub's Der Fall des Hauses Romanov (1927) and Dziga Vertov's Entuziazm (1930); a lecture by sexologist Aleksandar Kostić on pagan phallic rituals; a documentary (faked by Makavejev) on rat extermination; a lecture by criminologist Êivojin Aleksić as well as a spicy piece of erotica from the good, very, very old days.
