In a desert region in the Far East, a terrorist is captured and badly beaten during interrogation. He is to be transferred to a secret prison in Europe for further interrogation. On the way there, however, he manages to escape. As hunted fair game, he now fights for survival in snowy forests instead of the desert.
Jerzy Skolimowski's thriller was the subject of controversy at its premiere in Venice. His award of the Special Jury Prize was also criticized - the acting prize for Vincent Gallo for his silent physical feat, on the other hand, was undisputed. In interviews, Skolimowski always emphasized that he was less interested in making a political statement than a poetic one. And so the “imposing imagery” (Jan Schulz-Ojala, Die Zeit) of the work can be interpreted as a revival of the metaphorical film language of the sixties. Screenwriter, filmmaker, actor and painter Jerzy Skolimowski, born in 1938, wrote for Andrzej Wajda and Roman Polanski. He won the Golden Bear in Berlin with Le Départ (1967). After his Hände hoch! (Rece do góry, 1981), which was banned in Poland, he worked in France, West Germany and the USA. After a break of 20 years, during which he mainly painted and worked as an actor, he made Four Nights With Anna (Cztery noce z Anna) in 2008.
